Editorial Policy

Invoice Fly Academy exists to help contractors, tradespeople and small business owners run their businesses better — from pricing jobs and writing contracts to getting paid on time. This page explains how our content is produced, who writes it, and the standards every article must meet before it is published.

Who writes our content

Every article in the Academy is written by a named author with relevant professional experience. We do not publish content under generic bylines such as "Staff Writer" or "Admin". Our core editorial team:

  • Jennifer Allerson — Senior Copywriter and Content Strategist with over a decade of experience producing content for global brands. Jennifer leads our long-form guides on contracts, pricing and business operations.
  • Ellie McKenna — Copywriter and Content Strategist with a BSc in Business Advertising and an MSc in Digital Marketing. Ellie covers industry guides, templates and marketing topics for trades businesses.

Author pages list each writer's background, credentials and full article history. Where an article covers a specialised trade or a legal or tax topic, we consult practitioners in that field and cite primary sources.

How an article is produced

  1. Research. Every article starts from primary sources: government and regulatory publications (IRS, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, state licensing boards), industry associations, and our own product data.
  2. First-party data. Invoice Fly is used by more than 125,000 contractors and small businesses. Where we publish pricing benchmarks, rates or industry statistics, they may draw on aggregated and anonymised data from invoices and estimates created on our platform. This data is never traceable to any individual user or business.
  3. Writing. Articles are written by the named author. We use software tools — including AI-based tools — to assist with research, drafting and translation, but every published article is directed, verified and edited by a human author who is accountable for its accuracy.
  4. Review. Before publication, each article is checked for factual accuracy, working sources and up-to-date figures.
  5. Updates. Pricing guides, tax-related content and statistics are reviewed periodically and updated when figures change. When an article is substantially updated, the visible "updated" date reflects a real revision of its content — we do not change dates without changing the article.

Sourcing standards

  • Claims involving figures, rates, laws or regulations must cite a primary source or our own first-party data.
  • We link out to the original source rather than to intermediaries whenever possible.
  • We do not accept payment for coverage inside Academy articles. Where a page promotes Invoice Fly's own product, that is clearly recognisable as our product.

What our content is — and is not

Academy articles are general business guidance for contractors and small business owners. They are not legal, tax or accounting advice. Rules for contracts, licensing and taxes vary by state and by trade; for decisions with legal or financial consequences, consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.

Corrections

If you find an error in any of our articles, we want to know. Contact us through our contact page and we will review and correct verified errors promptly.
